Neighbors from the Cerro municipality, in Havana, planted two banana trees in a huge pothole in the middle of the street.
"Welcome to the jungle!" he said. Yulier Rodríguez, who shared on his wall Facebook a photo and a video of the curious event.
The surreal scene can be seen on Santa Teresa Street, between Calzada del Cerro and Cañongo, about 100 meters before reaching the Cerro Pediatric Hospital.
Several Internet users commented on the incident with disappointment and even humor.
"Ruralized Havana," said a painter.
"It is a mixture of surprise, sadness and admiration. In the middle of the street, some rubble was fertile and enough to grow two banana trees. The plants are life, they provide food. It is also a surreal scene," said an emigre.
"Sow your little piece asere, hahahaha, King Kong is coming out right now," a music producer mocked.
Although it may seem very new, the residents of Cerro are not the first to think of taking advantage of the gaps in the streets to plant vegetables and root vegetables.
In December, residents of the battered Mujica street, between Rio and Cuba, in the city of Matanzas, They planted corn, banana, taro and pumpkin, in an artery that has been damaged and closed for years.
A photo shared on the Internet allowed us to see the crops growing in a place that was unlikely to be planted and where, apparently, a tram had previously passed.
Less than a month later, after multiple criticisms of the government for the lack of attention to that street, paving and maintenance work began to be carried out there.
"This Monday, December 18 The paving work on the central Mujica street in Matanzas began, which during these months had gone viral due to photos of corn plantations growing between its sidewalks," described the local newspaper Giron.
According to the publication, "since Monday, November 27, work was resumed on the central route with hydraulic work carried out on the section, as well as other actions to prepare the terrain to be able to remove the asphalt layer."
