Hialeah authorities concerned about the arrival of more than 80,000 Cubans to the city in two years

Mass immigration has not only generated a real estate crisis in Hialeah, but has also impacted the educational system.

authorities ofHialeah In a recent forum, they addressed the issue of the massive arrival of thousands of migrants to the city, mainly Cubans, with a view to evaluating the impact this has had, as well as the resources available or to ask the federal government to confront the massive arrival of people. .

It is estimated that only in the last two years some 80,000 Cubans have arrived, although there are no official figures.

“We can not only help these people adapt but also communicate to the federal government the help that is needed for a city like ours. The participation of the politicians who represent us in Washington and other agencies that work in this space,” said the mayor of Hialeah, Esteban Bovo, in statements collected byAmerica Camel.

“It's about seeing how we as a city can adapt and provide better services,” he added.

It is estimated that of the 420,000 migrants who arrived from Cuba to the United States in the last two years, 75% ended up in South Florida and a large part of them settled in Hialeah.

George Fuente, the city's police chief, admittedthe increase in traffic accidents in the last two years, as well as arrests and crime in general.

However, he clarified that the police are not there to see if a person is documented or undocumented, but to stop crime.

The authorities explained that massive immigration has not only generated a real estate crisis in the city, with higher rents and a greater number of mobile homes, but has also impacted the educational system due to the massive arrival of school-age children.

“We have seen a growth in alternative housing that cannot be accepted in the city, I am obviously referring to mobile homes,” stressed the mayor, who in recent monthshas taken measures to stop the wave of illegal mobile homes in Hialeah.

The daily tasks of public officials have also skyrocketed.

The idea of these forums is to know the real number of immigrants in the city of Hialeah and thus assess the resources available or to request to face the expenses derived from this wave of immigrants.
