A student at the University of Miami who had survived the2018 Parkland school massacre, He died last Monday after being hit by a car while riding his scooter to campus.
Daniel 'Danny' Bishop, 22, a senior studying Mathematics and Psychology in the College of Arts and Sciences, died when he was hit by a car near Lejeune Road and Altara Avenue.
The young man, originally from Coral Springs, in Broward County, was very popular among his classmates, since he regularly participated in student organizations, according to the university.statement.
The center remembered him as a beloved leader of the President's 100 or "P100" organization, who serve as campus tour guides, and as president of "Huracán Productions," one of the institution's main student organizations.
"Danny was a role model, investing in what he loved and working hard to create a supportive 'Cane' community," interim rector Guillermo Prado said in an email.
"He was full of positivity and passion for life. He had incredible ambition and drive, and his love of mathematics was inspiring. He was a student leader who rose by encouraging others. Everything he did was done with authenticity, he He cared about everyone he interacted with and approached every task he undertook with determination," he added.
The young man was a brilliant student who was on the President's Honor Roll almost every semester. He was a tutor to many of his classmates, he sang, he had a black belt in karate and he founded his own company providing private Mathematics classes.
"Teaching had been Danny's lifelong dream. He was preparing to begin his graduate career at Gulliver Preparatory in the fall to teach Mathematics," the text stated.
Dozens of students held a vigil Tuesday night to pay tribute to him.
Coral Gables Police announced an investigation into the accident. For now, it is only known that the other driver remained at the scene of the crash.
Bishop was a sophomore at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Broward, where on February 14, 2018,Former student Nikolas Cruz murdered 17 students and teachers.
According to himMiami New Times, that day he huddled in a corner for almost three hours and after the shooting was photographed crying outside the school, an image that circulated in newspapers across the country.
"He was part of a group of local students who went to Tallahassee to advocate for gun law reform after the massacre," the newspaper said.
