Cuban dies allegedly murdered at the hands of the police in Havana

The police did not verify a complaint from a woman and acted violently against the man.

A Cuban police officer would be responsible for the death ofLuis Yassel Mesa Brito, after a beating due to a false complaint by a woman with psychiatric problems on March 5.

The news was given in the Facebook group “Denouncing crimes in Cuba”, where it was detailed that the 38-year-old man had gone out to walk his grandson when a woman suddenly began to scream: "Let go of my son! He is taking my son!", pointing to the grandson of Luis Yassel," they mentioned.

In the publication they specify that the police arrived at the scene and without verifying the veracity of what the woman said, they handcuffed and “brutally” beat Luis Yassel.

Later, at the Calixto García Hospital they declared the young man dead because he was bruised from the blows they gave him, after doing an ultrasound.

In the comments section of the publication, a woman, who declared herself close to the deceased, explained that "that man did not mess with anyone, I knew him, he was from my area, it was all a mistake on the part of that woman when she said that they took her child, at no time was that child anything of that woman, that child was her grandson.”

He added that the woman also hit the boy.

Also,Luis Rodríguez Pérez, husband of the political prisonerAngelica Garrido, one of the more than a thousand people arrested and prosecuted for demonstrating during the historic 11J protests in Cuba, said he was aware of the unfortunate event and reported that “the place is packed,” in reference to the hospital.

At the time of publishing this note, the Cuban authorities have not reported the event.

An incident of police abuse in Holguín was documented on social networks last November, whena police officer acted violently while trying to arrest a man inside a home, where he attacked him, his ex-wife and his minor daughter, according to a family report.

In December,The Cuban mother Yuneisi Rodríguez González, denounced that the police, also from Holguín, brutally beat her son, David Alejandro Pérez Rodríguez (22 years old) allegedly without reasons.

Likewise, in Baracoa,Police officers are allegedly responsible for the death of a young man arrested for transporting half a bag of powdered milk.
