A Cuban was detained by neighbors and passers-by in the municipality of Diez de Octubre, in Havana, while trying to steal the cell phone of a high school student.
According to the Facebook profile Orly Reyesventas, the man tried to rob him violently.
In addition, he said that he belongs to a gang that operates in the vicinity of the Santo Suárez and La Víbora neighborhoods, in said district of the Cuban capital.
In the photos shared in the publication, the criminal is seen on the floor in the middle of a crowd and then walks behind the police car that is transporting him.
In the comments section, a user, to counter the opinion of another person, who came out in defense of the criminal, clarified that the aggressor committed his crime with great violence and even “put his hand up the teenager's blouse.”
A user, for her part, described as “sad everything we are experiencing in this country.”
“Now they give him a fine of 10 thousand pesos and he stops on the streets to continue stealing, what a country! Be very careful with our children,” another person emphasized.
Given the high level of insecurity in Cuba, residents have taken the initiative to act against thieves.
In that same municipality, at the end of February,a thief who assaulted an elderly woman was arrested by citizens and reported to the police.
In a video that circulated on social media, an outraged crowd watched the moment the man was put into a police patrol car after the arrest. In the recording, someone was heard stating that the young man assaulted a person, although he did not specify what was stolen.
Another thief, but in Santiago de Cuba, who was trying to steal a Lada car He was arrested by the population.
Neighbors who live in surrounding areas reported that the offender “was tied up until the police arrived and was taken to the nearest police station known as ‘El Palacete’.”
Also in the eastern province, it wasarrested an alleged assailant who, in the company of another individual, tried to rob a woman who was withdrawing cash from an ATM.
At a recent meeting of the Council of Ministers,The Cuban Government recognized the sustained increase in crimes in the country and the lack of “comprehensiveness” in the actions of the responsible institutions, an issue that, according to the prime ministerManuel Marrero Cruz, “it is not only the responsibility of the Ministry of the Interior.”
“The same complexities remain, the containment or reduction of the events is not achieved,” admitted Marrero Cruz during said meeting in which he specified that this is a priority for the Cuban government in what they have euphemistically called “projections for correct distortions and re-boost the economy during 2024.”
In terms of statistics, Cuban leaders need to clarify many data. Despite the information circulating through media independent of Cuban officials, the numbers are hidden and the government limits itself to speaking, without highlighting any of the different ways in which citizens suffer from crime.
