Government recognizes sustained and uncontrolled increase in crimes in Cuba

Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz, along with other government officials during a Council of Ministers meeting, acknowledged the continued and worrying increase in crime in the nation.

The Cuban Government recognized, during a recent meeting of its Council of Ministers, the sustained increase in crimes in the country and the lack of "comprehensiveness" in the actions of the responsible institutions, an issue that, according to the prime ministerManuel Marrero Cruz, “it is not only the responsibility of the Ministry of the Interior.”

“The same complexities remain, the containment or reduction of the events is not achieved,” admitted Marrero Cruz during said meeting in which he specified that this is a priority for the Cuban government in what they have euphemistically called “projections for correct distortions and re-boost the economy during 2024.”

The Prime Minister and the Deputy Prime MinisterRamiro Valdes Menendez, Castro commander, agreed in their interventions that the speech "is fought from the neighborhood," which for them is the place where the "revolutionaries" are found.

What is striking is that they did not delve into the lack of protection that Cubans have in their daily lives to face, as they want from the neighborhood, the high insecurity that the country experiences and to which beyond words behind a bureau or locked in an office, concrete actions are needed.

“We need a stronger hand. We need to go to the blandness, the lack of demands, the lack of control in the factories, in the warehouses, wherever the resources are,” Marrero asked but in a tired tone.

For her part, the Comptroller General of the Republic,Gladys Bejerano, to refer to fuel theft, pointed out that “there is a lot of indiscipline and a lot of lack of respect for the regulations,” because according to her, control depends on the administration of each place and that the country has indications on this issue.

In a report presented by theCuban Television, Marrero repeated a loudly shouted truth: “the result is when the sustained increase in crimes, in these negative manifestations, stops, when we then begin to reduce them once we all join this fight.”

The truth is that insecurity has taken over Cuban reality, visible in different manifestations and without a clear short-term limit.

In terms of statistics, Cuban leaders need to clarify many data. Despite the information circulating through media independent of Cuban officials, the numbers are hidden and the government limits itself to speaking, without denoting any of the different ways of experiencing violence that citizens may have.

Some examples have been debated among Cubans, such asthe proliferation of criminal gangs in Santiago de Cuba, a city in which reports of murders are worrying citizens.

The same happens with theelectric motorcycle thefts, for which many drivers have stopped leaving at certain times of the day.
