Cuban opponent José Daniel Ferrer is alive, but in delicate condition

This Monday, several people asked for proof of the opponent's life given rumors of his possible death in a Cuban prison.


Ana Belkis Ferrer García, sister of the Cuban political prisonerJose Daniel Ferrer, confirmed that the opposition leader is alive, but warns that he is in a delicate state of health.

"We have managed to havefaith of life of José Daniel Ferrer, after her daughter Fátima Victoria Ferrer stood in the Mar Verde prison, in Santiago de Cuba, demanding proof of life," said Ana Belkis.

He explained that his niece stood firm, this Monday, at the entrance to the prison. At first she had to face refusal from the officers who did not want to let her see her father. After a few hours they agreed to allow him access to the political prisoner, only for two minutes.

Ferrer's daughterplanted in front of Mar Verde prison. She is accompanied by activist Carlos Oliva.

The daughter found her father lying on the ground, with little strength to recover. She asked him if he had been beaten and he said no, but he was very surprised by the visit. "What are you doing here?" he said in amazement.

Fatima explained toJose Daniel Ferrer that there were strong rumors inside and outside Cuba of her possible death, and she personally went to obtain a certificate of life in prison.

This Monday several American personalities and politicians askedlife faith of the opponent after rumors spread in Santiago de Cuba, which spoke of his possible death in prison.

Ana Belkis believes that media pressure was key for her niece to be allowed access to José Daniel. The visit took place in a context of protests in Cuba. The demonstrations began on Sunday against the regime, due to food shortages and blackouts.

Since March 2023, the Cuban regime has denied José Daniel Ferrer the right to make telephone calls. They also prevent him from having family and conjugal visits.

Ferrer's family reiterated that the political prisoner is in inhumane, degrading conditions, under constant physical and psychological torture.
