Cuban couple dies in traffic accident in Suriname

The fatal victims of the accident were identified as Enrique Gousson Cabrera, 52, and Margarita Bea Martínez, 53.


A Cuban couple died in a fatal collision this Monday, when they were traveling on a motorcycle along an avenue in Paramaribo, capital ofSuriname, and were hit by a car, whose driver fled.

Enrique Gousson Cabrera, 52 years old, andMargarita Bea Martínez, 53, were traveling on a moped along Van 't Hogerhuysstraat avenue in the morning when the driver of a Mercedes Benz fatally ran over them, they reported.local media.

The couple, who lived in the South American country, was a native of Havana, according to information published in groups of Cubans on social networks, who deeply regretted thetragic event.

According to the police investigation, at the time of the crash, Gousson was not driving on the moped lane but on the avenue, which was very busy, according to residents at the scene.

Nieuwe Haven police responded to the scene to investigate and called an ambulance, but when medical personnel arrived, both victims no longer showed signs of life.

Afteraccident, the driver of the car fled leaving the vehicle abandoned, but around 9:50 a.m., he showed up at the police station accompanied by a lawyer. Authorities reported that the individualdoes not have a driver's license.

At the direction of the Public Ministry of Suriname, the bodies of the Cubans were transferred to the morgue of the Paramaribo Academic Hospital.

The investigation continues, after the case was transferred to the Paramaribo Traffic Unit at the scene.

Recently, the deaths of several Cubans have been reported as a result of traffic accidents in Suriname.

Gilberto José Mora Ávila, 29 years old and native of the province of Holguín, lost his life in a tragic accident of traffic that also occurred in Paramaribo, last February, while he was driving a motorcycle. The young man hit the left door of a car.

Cuban Emir Castro González did not survive a road accident in that city either., 43 years old, native of Cárdenas, Matanzas, and father of two children. Likewise, he was traveling on a motorcycle when he was fatally hit by a van.
