Mother and two-year-old son found dead in murder and attempted suicide case in Florida

A man allegedly stabbed his wife and son and tried to kill himself. He was found in the house unconscious from an overdose and taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Two people died and another is in critical condition in what appears to be a case of murder and attempted suicide in a neighborhood of Plantation, a city in Broward County.

The victims would be a mother and her son, and the injured person is the woman's husband. The youngest son survived.

The crime occurred Tuesday night at a home on Northwest 97th Avenue in the Jacaranda Lakes area and has shocked residents and authorities.

A neighbor said thatLocal 10 that a family of four lives in the house: the mother, the father and two children of two years and three months. He reported that an ambulance took the man to the hospital and that the three-month-old baby was with the grandparents, but he did not see the mother or the two-year-old child.

The authorities have not yet provided details, but they did confirm thatThe deaths were due to stabbing.

Police said the man was found unconscious due to an overdose of some type of drug and was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Is calledJean Carlos Aponte, 40 years old, is considered a suspect in the crime.

The victims were identified asSara Ashley Gama, 38, and the child, Ethan Aponte.

Neighbors described the couple as "lovely people." County property records reveal that they own the house.

"He is a military veteran, never drank, spent a lot of time with his family, worked hard on the appearance of his house and showed no signs of problems," other neighbors toldCBS.

The Department later posted information on its Twitter account saying that "the safety of the public is not at risk at this time."
