Cuban family settles in Spain thanks to repopulation program in Burgos

He Lerma City Council, in Spain, officially welcomed a cuban family that was established in his community, thanks to a program of repopulation of rural areas.

The Lerma municipality belongs to the province Burgos, in the Autonomous Community of Castilla y León. The new Cuban family that will live there has five members. The town hall that welcomes them offers them school, work and housing, necessary conditions to start their new life in Spain.

The project "Burgos Repuebla, Smart Territory", is an initiative of the Provincial Council of Burgos and the Society for the development of the province (SODEBUR). They have the objective of stopping the depopulation of rural areas in their region and have chosen some families to integrate into the area.

The first one to arrive is of Cuban origin. They have just settled in Lerma Few days ago. In this small town the City Council is working through the Rooting Project to attract new inhabitants who contribute to the growth and revitalization of the community.

"It is an innovative and interesting initiative both for people who want to start from scratch in our town, needing a home and a job, and for those homeowners, premises and/or companies," they say from the City Council of Lerma.

He Burgos newspaper He pointed out that a second chosen family is already in the province and comes from Valencia. They settled in the town of Castrojeriz to work in the hospitality industry.

In June 2023, the cases of other three families from Cuba that arrived in the Spanish community of Palencia through the Paredes de Nava Repopulation Office.

They are Cubans with Spanish nationality, descendants of Castilians and Leonese. Their settlement in agricultural towns was also planned.
