The Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (MINFAR) identified this Thursday the people who died in the air accident involving a military helicopter in Santiago de Cuba.
In the incident, which occurred in the early morning, three people died: the oldestDairon González Espinosa, first lieutenantCarlos Enrique Frómeta Rodríguez and the second lieutenantYunier Céspedes Escalona, reported MINFAR.
The official note states that "in the early hours of today, April 11, 2024, a helicopter accident occurred that was carrying out a mission in the interest of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, which crashed to the ground at the Antonio Maceo Grajales international airport in Santiago de Cuba".
"The three members of the crew were deceased: Major Dairon González Espinosa. First Lieutenant Carlos Enrique Frómeta Rodríguez. Second Lieutenant Yunier Céspedes Escalona," he says.
Likewise, he emphasizes that a MINFAR commission is currently investigating the causes of the accident.
President Miguel Díaz-Canel sent condolences to the families of the victims through a brief message on X.
According to reports, a helicopter of the Armed Forces (FAR)collapsed in the early hours of this Thursday in Santiago de Cuba, with no survivors reported.
It was the MI-17 helicopter number H-115, which fell from about ten meters high.

From the first moment it emerged that at least three people had died, including a flight mechanic and two FAR Red Beret escorts.
Luis Domínguez, journalist and one of the first people to report on this case, had indicated that Dairon González, one of the victims, was training as a pilot in the third training course of the specialty in the Cuban army.
For his part, a Facebook user who calls himself Bolek Lolek stated that Céspedes Escalona was the flight technician.
