A group of houses were left without electricity for several hours this Tuesday afternoon in the Altamira neighborhood, in the city ofSantiago de Cuba, after some cables caught fire, which confirmed the deplorable state in which the electrical installations remain on the island.
The incident occurred in the Monagas alley, on Cañada street in the aforementioned Santiago neighborhood, as confirmed on social networks by journalist Yosmany Mayeta, who shared a video of the moment when the cables were on fire.
The aforementioned source revealed that The residents of the home closest to the area of the small fire left their home for fear of an explosion.
According to the testimony of residents of the area, the cables caught fire after 2:00 in the afternoon andAfter more than two and a half hours of constant telephone calls to the state entity,It was that they arrived at the affected area to try to solve the problem.
The video showed that the area that burned was invaded by cables coiled and suspended by a metal tube, in visibly shoddy work.
"The pretext that the Santiago Electric Company always gives is that the residents of this Callejón themselves have to look for a pole where they can relocate these electrical downpipes, something that is not in private hands, but in the company itself.that has all the necessary materials, but they are only used to solve the problems, when those affected themselves pay a good sum of money," Mayeta Labrada added in her complaint.
Hours later, the Electric Company itself responded in the comments section of the publication that the incident was pending a solution but that it had not yet been fixed due to "lack of necessary material."
"The complaint is in process, it was pending solution due to lack of necessary material to solve the interruption because the connection was completely damaged and must be replaced,"indicated the state company.
They added, however, that they already had "the resource" and that on-call personnel would go to the scene to restore service as soon as possible.
Yosmany Mayeta described the situation as "painful" and noted thatAlmost the entire Altamira District and its surrounding communities repeatedly present similar problems and many live "with clotheslines from other houses" because the entity has not properly electrified them nor provided them with meter meters.
In the comments section of both publications, several Internet users agreed that the Electric Company only puts "patches."
Until the closing of this note, the cause of the fire in the wiring has not been specified, which took place in the midst of normal weather conditions and not due to the effect of electrical storms or other similar phenomena.
In addition to the delicate conditions of the electrical wiring in some areas of Santiago de Cuba, there are blackouts that inconvenience the population so much and that frequently put the patience of residents in that province to the limit.
