They promote the sale of bones as "meat" in Havana

"So they meat that amount of bone, and where did they send the meat? As if we were scavengers, they are not ashamed to sell that cemetery of bones," said an old woman.

Images showing the sale of beef bones as if they were "meat" in Havana have caused a multitude of criticism on social networks.

The false promotion occurred in the Bahía district, in the round market, on 20th Street, where fish (tilapia) and "meat" were sold on Saturday, according to a publication in the group ofFacebook "SELL EVERYTHING HERE BAHÍA (putting the price)."

In the photos you can see the practically peeled bones inside plastic boxes that the seller put on top of pallets, because he preferred to leave them on the grass before taking the trouble to lift them and place them on a table or platform.

"What a shame, so meaty that amount of bone, and where did they send the meat? As if we were scavengers, they are not ashamed to sell that cemetery of bones...", said an old woman.

"But that's pure bone," said a young woman.

"They should throw it to the zoo animals, or maybe we are animals," questioned a mother.

"It looks like we're in a German concentration camp," protested one man.

"More than meaty, they look like remains from an exhumation from the Colón cemetery," said a young man.

Other Internet users questioned the lack of hygiene, with the merchandise almost on the ground, completely uncovered and a few meters from a parked motorcycle, and with the seller without gloves or any protective measures.

"What a lack of decency. Not to mention the refrigeration conditions of those completely exposed products...", said one.

"That's what they use to make mincemeat for children and then talk about 'clandestine dog factory'. You are the inventors," stressed another.

"There is too much meat, they shouldn't sell so much meat to the people, better give it to those at the top who are so hungry, poor things, if they only eat bones," said a third ironically.

The sale of cow and pork bones is common in Cuba, where food shortages and hunger are so great that there are always people who come to buy them because they have no other option.

Last August, the Cuban Observatory of Human Rights (OCDH) released a video of the sale ofbeef bones at 70 pesos per pound in Camagüey, where they threw the product on the ground, in the middle of the street.

The footage showed the bones lying on the street, where they were cut up and given to buyers.

A few days before, another video circulated showing severalfly-infested boxes with bones and legs of what appeared to be cows, ready for sale to the population in Cuba, while some people waited their turn in line.

In July, the OCDH denounced that thegovernment sold cow bones to the people in Las Tunas.

A video recorded by a witness revealed the moment in which a company truck was unloading the cargo in a state butcher shop where several workers, without gloves or any other hygienic means, lowered the merchandise in a box to the same street.
