Cuban suffers burns to 30% of his body during fire in his house in Little Havana

And Cuban suffered first and second degree burns on 30% of his body during a fire that broke out in his home in Little Havana.

The fire occurred Thursday around 12:30 a.m. at 3691 16th Street, near Northwest 37th Avenue.

Pete Sánchez, spokesman for the Miami firefighters, revealed that the teams went to the single-story home and saw smoke coming out of it and had to call for reinforcements before entering.

"When we arrived at the scene we found a family who told us they still had a family member inside the house and immediately the firefighters entered and removed this victim, who was on the floor in the back of the house in critical condition." , explained to America TeVe.

The victim, identified as Rogel Escalona, 65 years old, is in serious condition at Jackson Memorial Hospital.

"I arrived here at 2:30 am, There was a cut in the lamp that was next to him, he was asleep and the room and the house caught fire, the neighbor noticed and helped him get out when the firefighters arrived," said Pedro Escalona, the victim's brother.

Four people lived in the house, members of the same family..

Firefighters extinguished the fire within minutes, which did not spread to other homes.

But before, two police officers who went in to help the victim were affected by smoke inhalation. A firefighter also needed medical attention, but was released a few hours later.

"They tried to help the family, but there was a lot of smoke and they were evaluated and treated and we transferred them to Jackson Hospital for smoke inhalation. Thank God they are stable and we are very proud of their work and the support they give to the community" , considered Pete Sánchez.

He property was declared uninhabitable through the city of Miami. The family receives help from the Red Cross.

The causes of the fire are being investigated.
