A Cuban boy sells second-hand items to survive on the same Havana sidewalk where dictator Fidel Castro proclaimed the "socialist character of the revolution."

The Cuban photographer Pedro Luis García – whose images of El Vedado in recent months have been a testimony of the generalized crisis on the island – questions the regime's discourse that has been based on the belief that "no one will be left helpless" and recalls Castro's fiery declaration in 1961, when he assured that in Cuba there would be "a Revolution of the humble, by the humble and for the humble."

That statement is refuted by the image, which shows a child sitting in one of the doorways at 23 and 12, selling what appears to be a hat, a purse, children's pants, a belt and other items used to survive in the current climate of inflation and extreme poverty on the island.

"NO ONE WILL BE LEFT HELPFUL, IN THE SAME CORNER WHERE THE SOCIALIST CHARACTER OF THE REPUBLIC WAS DECLARED. AT THE FOOT OF THE MONUMENT, SURVIVAL IS VISIBLE EVERY DAY. 23 and 12," he lamented in Facebook.

In recent months, dozens of stories have emerged that show that, in the context of extreme poverty prevailing in Cuba, Cuban children must start working to support their families.

Last year, the story of a boy who he sold quail eggs to help his grandmother in Guisa, Granma province.

A minor also went viral sells soft drinks to earn a living on a street in Central Havana.

Likewise, the image of a child selling tortillas on the streets of Arroyo Naranjo sparked a wide debate on social networks about the current situation of minors in Cuba, unable to escape the prevailing crisis.

"The reality of children in Cuba. This Cuban child works to help his parents," stated the Instagram profile of Cubans around the World.

In the comments section of the publication, several Internet users pointed out that it is not that it is bad, but a child at that age should be playing and not working, in addition to the fact that this image deviates from the protection of minors that the Miguel Díaz government -Canel proclaims.
