The fall of a vehicle that was traveling on a bridge on the National Highway provoked comments from several Cubans who denounced the poor state of this road infrastructure and the abandonment of responsibilities by the State, in charge of its maintenance.
The events occurred this Saturday at kilometer 69 of the highway, when an American-made car from the 1950s (known in Cuba as “almendrones”) left the road, broke the safety pillars of the bridge and fell down. the track separator.
A post in the group Facebook 'Bus & Truck Accidents', in which a photograph of the bridge and the damaged car was shared, generated comments from several Internet users who criticized the passivity of the authorities, who do not prepare an infrastructure that, according to them, has witnessed other similar accidents.
The bridge reportedly has uneven pavement that can cause drivers to lose control of their vehicles. According to reports, there are several who have ended up falling off that bridge, located near the Nueva Paz municipality.
“It is not the first accident there, but no one fixes the speed bump that the bridge has at the entrance. If you don't know him, you can take him off the highway,” said one Internet user. “Look at the separation between the plates of that road,” said another, drawing attention to the exaggerated separation in the bridge paving.
“I was driving by there recently. I was surprised by that speed bump, but I was going at a speed that allowed me to control the situation. That is dangerous,” said another user of the well-known Facebook group.
“I know where that bridge is. I am a truck driver and the first time I was surprised by the speed bump I was not going more than 70 km, and it almost took me off the highway. Imagine the drivers who don't know that place and drive more than 100 km!”, pointed out another Internet user.
“I'm from Nueva Paz, and this bridge is nearby. There is no regulated speed nor any sign indicating it. "Whoever doesn't know him, that could happen to him." "There, even the bridge is damaged... What a disaster for God's sake!... Not even the Ukrainians who are at war have bridges like that."
“That bridge has a very dangerous speed bump, no one fixes it and I don't remember it having any warning signs like other sections. Nothing, I don't know what they are waiting for to fix the damn speed bump.” “They don't fix anything. That one, like all bridges, has a lot of unevenness and in this case it is diagonal to the road.”
“Hopefully it's just the scare and material damage. Anyone who does not know that bridge has a high risk of having an accident. The same thing happened at km 220 from east to west, although at least that one was fixed a little.” "Everything is going from bad to worse. The situation is more than critical: a country abandoned by its owners.”
“That area over there, I don't know what it has, but many cars have gone down the bridge. ¿They remember the bus with the teachers that also went down the bridge before reaching the Güines bridge? It was on the news a few years ago.”
“This was right there, about a month ago. “This doesn’t matter to anyone,” said another user sharing an image of a previous accident.
