The popular comedian Andy Vázquez, known as Facundo from "Vivir del Cuento," took the opportunity of Mother's Day to call for greater respect for Cuban women, referencing the tense situation in the country with power outages, which miraculously improved this Sunday.

"They say there is light throughout Cuba. I hope that is the case in respect to those women who suffer so much. God bless them," the comedian posted on Facebook, noting it was convenient for the regime that there was a subtle decrease in the electricity generation deficit this Sunday.

"So? Do they have it or not? It's whenever it suits them," reflected the popular actor among the comments on the post, accusing the Cuban government of manipulating the deficit according to its own interests, knowing that this Mother's Day is a special day for families.

Some users of the social network reported that the power outages have indeed occurred, to which the comedian replied, “They lied; they said they wouldn’t take it away.”

For Mother's Day 2024, the Electric Union forecasted a peak hour impact of 660 MW.

On Saturday, the service was disrupted due to a deficit in generation capacity throughout the 24 hours, and it was not restored until 4:04 AM today. The highest impact was 933 MW at 8:30, exceeding the forecasted levels for this Sunday.

As a prelude to this welcome reduction in blackouts, Cubans took to the streets once again, with reports of demonstrations early Saturday morning in the province of Camagüey.

After nearly 20 hours without electricity, residents of the area staged a pots-and-pans protest, reported La Hora de Cuba.

The news portal reported that the chant of "Current and food!" could be heard as citizens banged on pots and pans, according to a witness.

A similar scenario occurred in Las Tunas, where residents took to the streets with pots and pans to protest on the night of Friday, May 10, after power outages in the residential sector intensified across the island, with reports of outages lasting up to 18 hours in some areas of the country.

From the Facebook page "Justicia 11J," a report was made about the protest, including a video showing people banging on pots and pans.

While news websites and leaders of the Caribbean country spread positive messages disconnected from the harsh reality faced by the people amid the economic and energy crises, a mother erupted on social media in response to the ongoing blackouts.

The resident of Cienfuegos, Midaisy Marrero Gil, urged Cubans to awaken and break free from the crisis that the country has been immersed in for years.

"We have spent many nights without sleep. These power outages have returned; they're here and not going away... and all I hear on social media is 'How long will this last?'" said the distressed mother during a Facebook live broadcast, where she also showed her children sleeping outdoors to escape the heat.
