Díaz-Canel announces "Citizen Portal" to facilitate procedures in Cuba

The president assures that the new measure is a step forward in the digital transformation in Cuba to speed up procedures without papers or offices.

The Cuban ruler Miguel Diaz-Canel, announced a technological initiative called "Citizen Portal", which will simplify and digitize administrative procedures.

The measure is part of the government's efforts to advance the country's digital transformation.

"I want to present the Cuban Citizen Portal. It will be a platform where people can build their profile and access a multitude of procedures without having to go through offices, without wasting paper. They are going to make life much more feasible," said Díaz-Canel in interview with the Spanish journalist Ignacio Ramonet.

The aforementioned portal will centralize the procedures already available on various platforms of organizations and institutions in the country, and according to Díaz-Canel, it will offer access to a wide range of useful information for citizens.

The platform will allow you to know the steps to process documents, the different legal processes and the administrative procedures on certain problems of interest.

He insisted that the Cuban Citizen Portal comes accompanied by a robust cybersecurity support, thus ensuring the protection of personal data and the integrity of the platform.

"This whole process of digital transformation and use of artificial intelligence We are supporting it with the development of cybersecurity, to avoid cyber attacks, to have security on all platforms," Díaz-Canel highlighted.

The Cuban government seeks to modernize the area of public administration, and facilitate the daily interaction of citizens with the State, such as "greater efficiency and transparency in government processes."

However, a large part of the Cuban population lacks the technical resources to access this type of platform and the knowledge to navigate it successfully.

Many citizens do not have mobile phones, or use archaic models. Few people have computers with an Internet connection in their homes.

Added to this are the problems with online browsing on the island, which is extremely slow, and the continuous blackouts that leave people without access to communications for a long time.

In April, the Defense Information Technology Company (Xetid) launched a platform through which natural or legal persons can process online digital documentation with legal validity in Cuban territory.
