Case against the aggressors of the young Lester Domínguez in Holguín ready for sentencing.

The boy's father is afraid that the attacker will not receive a fair punishment. The other assailant hanged himself, and apparently they want to make it seem like he was the main perpetrator of the assault.

On Wednesday, May 15, the trial against the assailant of Lester Domínguez was held. The teenager was attacked last year in March in Holguín with a machete to steal his cellphone.

His father, Dennis Domínguez, recounted on his Facebook wall that the oral hearing began at 10:00 am and ended at 4:00 pm, during which things happened that make him fear the final outcome.

The accused, identified as Adrián Grass Bermúdez, is facing a 20-year prison sentence for hacking his son with a machete, and an additional four years for stealing two phones from other victims, which were recovered. Lester's phone was also found buried in the attacker's backyard.

Dennis said that he was asked if he knew Adrian and he replied yes, that he had dated his sister. They also inquired whether the attacker's family had helped him this year, and he answered that they provided him with food for three or four months.

"I think they are incoherent questions that deviate from the reality of what is being sought, which are the aggressor's evidence, and they do not ask me about the aftermath he left behind, with Lester currently bedridden...", she questioned.

On the other hand, Dennis noticed that the defendant appeared in court "very healthy," and attributed it to being a relative of a prison official, who warned the rest of the inmates that he is his godson and nothing should happen to him.

The main fear of this brave father is that the aggressor of his son will not receive a punishment commensurate with his brutal attack, taking advantage of the fact that the other assailant involved in the assault committed suicide when the police went to arrest him.

"The aggressors of the child are Adrian and another who hanged himself, and at this moment they want to make it look like the immediate perpetrator is the one who took his own life. That night, the one who arrived on a bicycle and was carrying a machete was Adrian, and in his backyard, Lester's cell phone was found, along with the victim's blood on his clothes and the machete, trying to make it look like he was under threat," he detailed.

The Provincial Prosecutor's Office in Holguin is requesting a four-year prison sentence for Adrián Grass Bermúdez for continuous theft of cell phones, and 20 years for robbery with violence and intimidation in the case of Lester. The combined sentence is 24 years of imprisonment.

More than a year after being the victim of a brutal machete attack in Holguín, Lester Domínguez Ortiz has still not been able to walk again.

His heroic father, who has tirelessly accompanied him during this time, mentioned that his son has overcome many of the consequences of that attack, such as the scar that appeared on his back, and he no longer needs the mechanical ventilator to breathe.

"It is necessary to continue working on the psychological aspect so that he is mentally well, since Lester has not been able to take a step yet," he lamented.

The issues with the boy's spine are his main concern, and the only thing preventing him from returning to his normal life.

Although he is in good health and exercises daily to improve and strengthen his arms, legs, and abdomen, he cannot keep his head stable when lifted.
