The Cuban girl Amanda Lemus Ortiz smiles, and her good mood fills her father with joy, as can be seen in an emotional video of the little girl undergoing a liver transplant in Madrid, Spain.
The clip -just 54 seconds long- attests to her gradual recovery and the happiness of her father, who was the donor for the transplant, after the Cuban healthcare system practically abandoned her to her fate, and only the unity of thousands of compatriots made it possible for her to arrive in European territory and undergo the surgical process.
"Amanda laughs and along with her all of us!" wrote activist Yamilka Laffita (Lara Crofs) on Facebook to accompany the audiovisual publication, which already has 10,000 views.
Since the first operation in March to correct a bile duct atresia, Amanda has had to return to the operating room three more times. The last one was on April 4th, to drain the large amount of bile thrown on the side and stop the bleeding.
Two weeks later, he was transferred from the Intensive Care Unit to a recovery room at La Paz Hospital in the Spanish capital, after his ascites decreased to 1.9 and his hemoglobin levels rose to 10.
In the last 15 days, the girl has improved significantly: she is eating solid foods, has an appetite, is gaining weight, is in good spirits, and her eyes are no longer yellow.
However, their stay at the medical center will be prolonged for an indefinite period due to the significant deterioration they were experiencing upon arriving in Spain, which amazed the doctors, who said that "precious time had been wasted."
The fundraising on GoFundMe closed at over $28,000 to make the process a reality, although family members, friends, and people close to the situation are trying to financially help their parents, who must support themselves there without having a job or any source of income.
