The police captured several individuals in the municipality of Guanabacoa, in Havana, who were allegedly involved in the theft and slaughter of large livestock, as reported on the official Facebook page of the pro-government profile Heroes in Blue.
The source, which did not specify the exact number of detainees, detailed that the slaughterers were caught just as they were transporting the meat in sacks.
The pro-government profile specified that the arrest took place in the Peñalver-Guanabo People's Council and that it was possible thanks to the joint action of the "José Martí Peasant Brigade" with the police.
Images that were released showed a man being handcuffed next to a tractor, as well as several white sacks scattered in the underbrush.
In the final segment of the publication, the official source boasted about the capture of several groups of people involved in this type of illegal activities in the countryside council in Guanabacoa.
The information disseminated did not provide any other details about the origin of the confiscated meat nor about the modus operandi of the alleged perpetrators.
These profiles are dedicated to highlighting the work of the police amidst the credibility crisis faced by these organs of the Cuban regime in the midst of the wave of violence shaking the country.
As popular discontent grows over the police inaction, these profiles try to change that perception by sharing news of thieves being arrested in various areas of the country.
In recent years, coinciding with the significant increase in the food crisis in Cuba, there has been an increase in criminal acts against large livestock.
Although the problem extends throughout the country, it is in the central provinces where the phenomenon has been classified as particularly concerning.
However, there have also been sporadic reports in Havana of similar incidents. In June of last year, the Cuban police reported through one of its official pages the capture of five alleged butchers in Havana, specifically in the Minas Barred popular council, also in Guanabacoa.
In that case, the men were caught just before they were going to sacrifice a cow. The individuals intended to use the railway line to sacrifice the animal, but were caught red-handed with knives and bags ready to store the meat.
