Suspected rapist arrested in Santiago de Cuba

The individual allegedly committed the sexual assault in the José Martí District.


A man was captured in the José Martí District, in Santiago de Cuba, under the accusation of being the alleged author of a rape that occurred in the area.

The arrest took place this Tuesday, according to a report on Facebook by journalist Yosmany Mayeta, based on testimony from neighbors and eyewitnesses.

A source, who preferred to remain anonymous, reported that the alleged perpetrator committed the crime last Friday around 11:00 p.m.

According to the testimony, the victim, a 21-year-old young woman of Christian faith, was walking towards the well-known area of Barca de Oro when the man intercepted her with a machete, threatening to kill her if she screamed.

Later, he would have forced her to go to the back of the softball field located in the area known as "El J," where the assault took place.

A video shared by Mayeta showed the man handcuffed and placed under the custody of police agents, while a group of people remained at the scene.

In a later post, the individual was identified as Santiago V., also known as "Chago."

The man, a resident of Reparto Agüero, is said to have been released from prison a few months ago.

"According to what I've been told, he was a fugitive for a robbery at the Casa de la Cultura in San Pedrito, but unfortunately, due to the police's slow response, a young Christian woman was assaulted," concluded Mayeta Labrada.
