A severe storm wreaks havoc in the Boyeros municipality of Havana

A severe local storm left a trail of fallen trees and power lines in the Boyeros municipality of Havana.

A severe local storm on Wednesday knocked down several trees and caused damage to the electrical lines in the popular councils of Santiago de Las Vegas and Nuevo Santiago, both located in the Boyeros municipality of Havana.

"Intensive work is underway to assess the damage caused by a severe local storm that affected the popular councils of Santiago de Las Vegas and Nuevo Santiago," reported on Facebook a person named Héctor Michel Rodríguez Turro.

"Now we must recover as quickly as possible," said the user who shared the gallery of photos showing damage to trees, electrical wiring, and some buildings.

The same user later stated on Facebook that "the recovery of electrical damages caused by the severe local storm in Boyeros is a priority," and also shared photographs showing workers from the electric company repairing the overhead lines.

This Monday, additional severe local storms were reported mainly in the central and eastern provinces of Cuba, causing damage to electrical infrastructure, homes, and state institutions.

Through the social media platform X, the Forecast Center of the Meteorological Institute announced the occurrence of storms in the regions of Matanzas, Villa Clara, Ciego de Ávila, Sancti Spíritus, Holguín, and Las Tunas. It also reported heavy rainfall in the central area and the fall of hailstones.
