The Cuban regime appointed a member of the Castro family as the new Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment of Cuba.

The América TeVe media outlet revealed that Oscar Pérez-Oliva Fraga, who has been serving as the head of the aforementioned ministry since Thursday replacing Ricardo Cabrisas, is the son of biologist Mirsa Fraga Castro and grandson of Angelita Castro, who died in 2013 at the age of 88 and was the older sister of Fidel and Raúl Castro Ruz.

Likewise, he is the nephew of José Antonio Fraga Castro, former president of Labiofam until 2014.

According to the news channel, Pérez-Oliva Fraga was the Business Director of the Special Mariel Development Zone under the leadership of the late Major General Luis Alberto Rodríguez López-Calleja, known as the czar of GAESA and former son-in-law of Raúl Castro.

Then he served as the first deputy minister of MINCEX, until Thursday when he was promoted to replace Cabrisas, who only lasted three months in the position but still remains vice minister of the island.

The day before, in a surprising move, the regime announced that it was relieving Cabrisas of his responsibilities as head of the sector, a position he had held since February.

Cabrisas will remain in his position as vice prime minister. Perez-Oliva Fraga, who was serving as the first deputy minister, was appointed as his successor in the MINCEX.

The 53-year-old electronic engineer, who has been climbing positions related to foreign investment, was presented by the regime as an expert in management for over 15 years in foreign trade activities.

The appointment of Carlos Luis Jorge Méndez as the first vice minister of MINCEX was also approved.
