The Cuban government announced the start of operations of the Lidio Ramón Pérez (Felton) thermoelectric power plant in Holguín, after 23 days of maintenance.

According to the Electric Union (UNE) reported on their Facebook profile, after checks and startup, Unit 1 will contribute 230 MW to the National Electroenergetic System (SEN) in the next few hours.

"The will and heart of the workers managed to meet the maintenance schedule, 874 actions were carried out over 23 days," the post details.

The good news, however, does not mean a reduction in the extensive power outages that have been overwhelming Cubans in recent months.

The UNE report for this Friday informed of a deficit in generation capacity 24 hours a day, with an impact of 600 MW during the daytime and a peak of 870 MW during peak hours.

On Thursday, the service was disrupted throughout the day. The peak disruption was 1162 MW at 8:10 pm.

At the moment, three units from the Mariel, Nuevitas, and Felton CTEs are out of service due to breakdowns, as well as three others from the Mariel and Santa Cruz power plants for maintenance.

In addition, there are limitations in the thermal generation of 523 MW, and 58 distributed generation plants are not operating due to lack of fuel, with 387 MW affected by this issue.

Felton's Unit 1 left the system on May 6th for a new scheduled maintenance, originally planned to last 25 days.

In the midst of the energy crisis gripping the country, with blackouts lasting over 18 hours, the closure of the Holguin power plant has further worsened the population's situation.
