Woman stops alleged thief at fair in Santiago de Cuba.

The suspect took advantage of a young saleswoman, who was holding a child, to steal all the money from the sale.

A woman captured an alleged thief at a fair in Santiago de Cuba and did not release him until a police officer took him into custody.

The incident was captured on video by the independent journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada on his Facebook profile.

As explained, the incident occurred at the agricultural fair located on Avenida Sueño in the city center.

"A woman with the three pairs of cojones that many men lack captures a thief and abuser of women," he said.

"He detailed, 'Capture a thief who took advantage of a woman vendor carrying a child in her arms to steal all the money from the sale.'"

In the video, the protagonist, who apparently is also a vendor, can be seen indignantly recounting that she had seen a man stealing from the woman when she had bent down to pick up some bananas.

"That's not right," she exclaimed angrily, and immediately, without thinking much, she walked off in search of the alleged thief.

Next, you can see how he already had the man by the sweater and was only shouting: "It was him!".

More people approached and handed over the man - who denied taking anything - to a police officer who was at the scene. Amidst the commotion, the robbery victim arrived with her child and threw a cookie at the detainee.

Scenes like these are increasingly common in Cuba, where assaults and robberies are on the rise, amidst the worst socio-economic crisis ever experienced in the country.

At the end of April, also in Santiago de Cuba, the people stopped an alleged thief who was acting in broad daylight in the San Pablo area, in the peripheral neighborhood of Micro 9.

Mayeta Labrada shared a brief video in which a man could be seen crouching down with his hands tied behind his back, while he was arguing with one of his captors.

"He was caught stealing, changed his sweater so he wouldn't be recognized, but all the men in my neighborhood pursued him until they caught him," a witness recounted.

The suspect accused people of having hit him.

"Just pay attention, you're not bleeding, you're not swollen, you haven't been hit," replied the neighbor from the area.

Days before, residents in the city of Santiago apprehended and tied up a thief in the middle of the street and kept him neutralized until the Police arrived.

The individual was tied to the gate of a house on Escario Street, between Pizarro and Hernán Cortés. According to witnesses, he had taken a cellphone from a woman in the vicinity of Plaza de Marte, although he kept repeating that he had not done anything.

When a police officer arrived at the scene, people shouted at him not to let go of the thief.

In mid-April, the community detained a suspected thief who snatched a cell phone from a teenager at the door of his house, and kept him immobilized until the Police arrived.

The events took place on 6th Street, between D and E, in the Sueño neighborhood, a central area of the city.

In the captured images, the thief's state of anxiety could be seen, apparently he had been hit in one eye which appeared to be closed.
