Residents of Santiago de Cuba have been dealing with a clogged sewage system for a month: "The wastewater is killing us".

The sewage waters come out through the bathrooms of the neighbors living on the ground floor. The yard is invaded, and the putrid waters are flowing towards the apartments.

Residents of Santiago de Cuba report that they have been living with a blockage in the sewer system of the building for over a month.

According to independent journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada, the appalling situation is happening in Building 2 on Punta Gorda Road, in the Nuevo Van Van neighborhood, in the Altamira district.

"The tap water is killing us," the residents told the reporter.

Mayeta Labrada explained that the building has 10 apartments where mostly elderly and young children live, and those on the first level are the most affected, as sewage water comes out through the bathrooms.

The journalist shared a video that shows the crisis that a humble woman living on the ground floor is going through, as she has to remove dirty water from her house every day.

"We can't live in this mess, we've been struggling for a month and the sewage system is overflowing. The bathroom, the house..." protested the woman.

"I am an older person with two sick girls with dengue, I even have one admitted and they are not doing anything to clean the register," he added.

After pouring a bucket of water in the patio, which is invaded by decay, the lady showed the central drainage system of the property, all overflowing, from where the dirty water flows towards the apartments.

"Oh my God, no one takes pity on us. Lord, put forth your powerful hand!" she pleaded.

Finally, Mayeta Labrada demanded the Water and Sewerage Company Aguas Santiago and the health authorities, as well as the provincial Government and Party officials, to provide a solution to this problem.
