The Venezuelan designer and fashion consultant, Prince Julio César, responsible for organizing the Miss Universo Cuba (MUC) contest in Miami, stated that this platform is cultural, not political.
The national director of the MUC assured journalist Luis Alfonso Borrego, during the Univisión TV show "Sit Whoever Can," that the platform he leads is "of beauty, of a positive message, of unity, of respect, of equality, because these are the canons of Miss Universe."
In an interview shared on Instagram by the page of the pageant, Prince Julio César declared that most of the women who participate or wish to participate in Miss Universe Cuba seek "to enjoy the recognition of their community, country, the world, and belong to the world of entertainment."
However, he admitted that some of them could also have other goals, such as venturing into politics and bringing a message to Cuba: "Which is totally valid," he pointed out.
"We are going to work for the cleanest, most correct line, without hurting susceptibilities," he stressed.
The national director of MUC highlighted that the participants of Miss Universe Cuba, selected through a recent virtual casting, are young women born on the Caribbean island or have at least one Cuban parent.
Prince Julio César emphasized this requirement, without ruling out that one of the contestants could come directly from Cuba.
"We do not intend to cover the sun with one finger," he expressed when referring to the current problems in Cuba, but emphasized that a Miss Universe does not have the capacity to solve them.
The Miss Universe Cuba contest will have 20 candidates, who will receive prior preparation during three months.
During this period, the young participants will receive classes in runway modeling, public speaking, posing for photos, and will carry out a social project, recently stated the national director of the pageant.
The beauty of Cuban women is incredible, I have always wondered how it is possible that these women are not in Miss Universe," commented the Venezuelan designer, who admitted to being very excited about this professional opportunity.
Recently, the return of Cuba to the Miss Universe contest was announced, after 57 years of absence, generating expectations among people.
The opportunity arose when the new owner of the contest, Thai Anne Jakrajutatip, mentioned that "she would like to visit the island and left the door open for Cuban women to participate again in the competition."
