The lives of the renowned Cuban musicians Gloria and Emilio Estefan inspired the musical "On Your Feet", which Sony Pictures will now bring to the big screen under the direction of Lissette Feliciano.

Gloria Estefan confirmed the news on Instagram: "A dream come true."

Lissette Feliciano, who will also be adapting the screenplay, posted on the same social media platform: "Get ready because the Estefans are coming to the big screen!! Their story. Their music. Their love. Their family. Their dream."

"Grateful is not a big enough word to express all that I feel in my heart," noted the young filmmaker.

Her words received the endorsement of Gloria Estefan, who responded, "We are SO excited! I can't wait for everyone to see your vision of our story."

Recently, music producer Emilio Estefan revealed to People en Español magazine that casting for the film was already underway.

"It's such a beautiful story, I believe it represents the story of many people who come to the United States, who have to leave their family, who come fighting," she pointed out.

Emilio remembered that Miami Sound Machine is the band he founded with Gloria, and the environment where their relationship was born. Although they achieved international fame, the beginning of the group was not easy.

The executive of a renowned record label, which they turned to decades ago, criticized their last name and their Latin sound, even advising them to change their name and eliminate the conga drum and the trumpet.

I looked at him and said, "Like it or not, that's how America is going to look," Emilio told People en Español.

The music producer confessed that Gloria and he have always been very happy: "Poverty has taught us a lot about enjoying the pleasant moments of life," he stated.

According to the aforementioned magazine, the Estefans will be producers of this film alongside John and Jordan Davis from Davis Entertainment.

The movie will be based on the musical of the same name, premiered on Broadway in 2016, and it portrays the story of the Estefans, considered icons of Latin music.

The production, under the direction of Jerry Mitchell, has been a great success, with over 750 performances and a tour across the United States and internationally.

In September 2023, Gloria and Emilio were awarded by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), People en Español pointed out.

On one hand, Gloria received the RIAA Honors "Idol" award, while Emilio was recognized with the Music Pioneer award.

In 2023, the Cuban-American singer and actress became the first Latina woman to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame (SHOF).

The history of music in the decades of the eighties and nineties of the last century has been marked by this singer, considered one of the first Latin artists to break into the American market and to place her songs on the major worldwide charts.

Thanks to her talent, songs like “Don’t Wanna Lose You”, “1-2-3”, “Get On Your Feet”, “Here We Are”, “Coming Out of the Dark”, “Bad Boy”, “Oye!”, and “Party Time”, among others, are remembered.
