A Cuban resident in Lexington, Nebraska, died after being run over by his girlfriend during an argument, early this Sunday morning.

Yuniesky Díaz Gómez, 38 years old and a native of Herradura, Pinar del Río, died as a result of the injuries caused by his partner Vilma Almanza Siles, 42 years old and originally from Nicaragua, who hit him with a moving vehicle, according to reports from the Lexington Police Department.

The incident occurred at approximately 4:30 a.m. last Sunday. Witnesses reported that Díaz and Almanza argued upon arriving at their home; the woman tried to leave, but the Cuban man stood in front of the car to stop her and was run over by his girlfriend.

Officials from Lexington Fire and Rescue immediately provided emergency assistance and transported Díaz to the city's Regional Hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries. The Cuban man later died at the medical center.

Almanza was arrested and is accused of vehicular homicide and driving under the influence of alcohol, local media reported.

The autopsy of Diaz's body was scheduled for this Monday. The Lexington Police Department continues to investigate the case, with the collaboration of Lexington Fire and Rescue and the Dawson County Sheriff's Office.
