A 20-year-old young man identified as Fabián Whittaker was stabbed to death by a coworker while performing his duties at a Small and Medium-sized Enterprise located in the Pedro A. Pérez Polyfunctional Plaza in Guantanamo.
The victim, described by family and friends as a kind and hardworking person, lost their life at their workplace, where they worked as a security guard, reported internet user Irma Broek, who provided details of the crime.
A neighbor from Guantanamo said that according to rumors circulating, the young man was attacked by two boys who started a brawl at the premises. Since Whittaker was in charge of security at the place, he tried to intervene and they killed him.
"I still can't believe you're gone, how unfair life is, how unfair," expressed a cousin of the victim, visibly affected by the tragedy.
Fabi, you were good. I can't bear so much pain that you leave in my soul, what a void you have left in people, because you let yourself be loved (...) They didn't even let you defend yourself," he stressed in a Facebook post.
This regrettable incident adds to a worrying wave of violence that seems to be on the rise on the island, where several cases of homicides have been reported in recent months.
On June 12th, the murder of a jeweler in Havana was reported, and two days later, on June 14th, a security guard at a cooperative in Santiago de Cuba was killed under similar circumstances.
Furthermore, recently, a young man was murdered during a party at a social club in Holguín.
