They prevent Cuban dissident Barbaro de Cespedes from leaving Cuba through Nicaragua: "They won't let me live."

This prominent Cuban dissident is known as "The Patriot of Camagüey." State Security does not allow him to leave the country.

The Cuban opponent Bárbaro de Céspedes denounced that State Security prevented him from leaving the country to Nicaragua and that there is complicity between the governments of both countries.

The State Security has tried to make life impossible for me, my family, and me in Cuba. I made the hardest decision of my life, to emigrate from this country that I love and defend. It is not out of fear of death, as I no longer have a life, but to avoid causing distress to my family," said the opposition figure.

They contacted a person to fly to Nicaragua on the afternoon of June 14th, but after having paid for their ticket, an expensive flight with several layovers, they were not allowed to board the plane.

"While on the bus heading to the airport, I received a message stating that the government of Nicaragua denied my entry into that country," De Céspedes said.

The Cuban dissident is known for his activism and harsh criticism of the regime. In his live broadcast on Facebook, he explained that in 2021, his daughter was planning to emigrate to the United States through Nicaragua, and when she tried to board the plane, Nicaraguan authorities denied her access.

Now, in 2024, this situation has also happened to him. Cépedes commented that he has decided to emigrate because upon being released from prison in February 2024, he was warned by State Security that if any situation occurred in Camagüey, he would be arrested and criminally prosecuted again.

In addition, they frequently receive threats, warnings, and persecution, and they are in a delicate economic situation because the State does not allow them to work, neither in the public sector nor in the private sector.

"Everyone who knows me knows that my homeland is above all in my feelings," commented the Patriot from Camagüey, pained.

Bárbaro de Céspedes was arrested for participating in the protests on July 11, 2021, and sentenced to two years in prison on charges of assault, disobedience, and contempt.

From prison, he sent a message declaring his innocence and steadfastness in his principles. His struggle has been supported by his family and other activists. He was released in February 2024, but State Security does not allow him to leave Cuba.
