This Monday, Cubana de Aviación inaugurated its new international route, which will depart from the José Martí International Airport in Havana, and arrive at the Tocumen Airport facility in Panama.

"With the takeoff of the IL96 aircraft from José Martí International Airport bound for Tocumen Airport, the charter operations that will connect the cities of Havana and Panama weekly on Mondays and Fridays are officially inaugurated," the Cuban airline said in a post on the Facebook social network."

According to the same entity, "the rescue of the Havana-Panama-Havana route will allow our airline Cubana de Aviación to reposition itself in this important destination in Latin America."

The Cuban ambassador to Panama, Victor Cairo, described the moment as a "long-awaited return."

On the other hand, the General Manager of Tocumen International Airport, Raffoul Arab, expressed to Aviation Club Center his enthusiasm for the resumption of these flights.

"This resumption of operations between Cuba and Panama represents an important step to strengthen the historical and cultural ties that unite our peoples," he stated.

Data from the Security Department of the Colón Free Trade Zone reveals that Cubans lead the visits to the Panama Free Trade Zone, which contributes to the airline's interest in operating these flights.

In 2023, Cubans led the visits to the Panama Free Trade Zone, with 15,042 visitors, followed closely by Ecuador, Costa Rica, Colombia, and Peru.

Up to now, Cubana de Aviación was officially only flying to Caracas, while maintaining two domestic routes to Holguín and Santiago de Cuba.

The fare for flights to Panama City is estimated at around 331 USD.

At that price, passengers will be entitled to "two suitcases allowance (plus taxes)" and the possibility to purchase extra luggage on the passenger flight, as well as in the airline's cargo operations.
