Cuban Electric Union reports power outages due to deficit exceeding 700 MW.

Wednesday's deficit was higher than expected because two blocks from the Mariel and Santa Cruz thermoelectric plants did not come online, and one from Rente went offline.

The Electric Union of Cuba predicts power outages throughout the day for this Thursday.

According to the report shared on Facebook, the service started to fail at 6:38 am due to a generation capacity deficit.

The availability of the national electric system (SEN) at 7:00 am was 2150 MW and the demand was 2240 MW, with 85 MW affected. An impact of 400 MW is estimated for midday.

On Wednesday, there were power outages from 10:26 am until 1:57 this morning. The maximum impact was 766 MW at 8:40 pm, coinciding with peak hours.

"Deficit higher than planned due to the non-arrival of Unit 5 from the Mariel CTE, Unit 2 from the Santa Cruz CTE, and the exit of Unit 5 from the Rente CTE," detailed the UNE.

For peak hours, a availability of 2310 MW and a peak demand of 2950 MW are expected, resulting in a deficit of 640 MW, so the forecast is for an impact of 710 MW.

There are four units from the Mariel, Santa Cruz, Nuevitas, and Felton power plants out of service due to breakdowns. Block 1 of the Santa Cruz power plant is under maintenance.

In addition, 61 distributed generation plants are idle due to lack of fuel, including the Regla and Melones barges, representing 579 MW of affected capacity.
