Cuban authorities located the Cuban elderly woman Juana María Curbelo Santana, 64 years old, who had been missing since last Saturday in Havana, at a hospital.
According to Curbelo Santaba's niece, Yanely García, the woman was run over by a motorcycle that fled the scene.
A passing car picked her up at the time of the incident, took her to the California polyclinic, and then she was referred to the Naval Hospital, where she is already with her family.
García thanked those who were aware of the case and helped in the search.
Curbelo Santana had been last seen on Cuervo Road in the Mantilla neighborhood, Arroyo Naranjo.
At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing a yellow sweater, orange pants, and light gray sneakers. He lives in the neighborhood of Santos Suárez, in the municipality of 10 de octubre, and did not have a cell phone with him.
Many Cuban families turn to social media in order to seek help in finding missing persons. Lately, these requests have become very common, amid a context of social insecurity due to the increase in crime in the country.
In Cuba, there is no state channel to make these cases visible, nor does the official press publish them. In its usual rhetoric, oblivious to the realities of Cubans, the Castro regime denies the existence of disappeared individuals in the country.
