Elected president of Mexico announces continuity of Cuban doctors program.

Claudia Sheinbaum's future administration will continue funding the Cuban regime by hiring doctors who will work in Mexico.

The president-elect of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, announced that on Tuesday she met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Bruno Rodríguez, and announced that she will continue to hire doctors from the Caribbean island, despite strong criticism that describes this program as a form of financing for the Cuban dictatorial regime.

During the meeting, Sheinbaum said that they discussed various topics, including the possibility of continuing to bring Cuban doctors to Mexico, at least during the first year of her administration (2024-2030), as reported by the EFE agency.

"We met with the Cuban Foreign Minister, they know that Cuba is a sister nation and we talked, for example, about the support they are giving us with the Cuban doctors, being able to maintain it for the next year, and some other important issues in the Mexico-Cuba relationship," Sheinbaum stated.

Recently, the president-elect criticized the accusations that the current president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, will continue to govern through her, condemning them as sexist by questioning whether the same things would be said if the person set to govern were not a woman, according to EFE.

Although Sheinbaum has defended herself against critics and opponents who have called her a "copycat" and "puppet" of López Obrador, she has already announced that she will maintain the policy of hiring Cuban doctors, which shows alignment with the policies of the current AMLO government.

The government of the Mexican state of San Luis Potosí officially acknowledged that the recent arrival of ten Cuban doctors to that locality caused discomfort among the residents.

Daniel Acosta Díaz de León, head of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) in San Luis Potosí, admitted that the presence of Cuban doctors irritated the population, who believe that those positions should be filled by local doctors, as reported by El Sol de San Luis.

Also in recent days, the Mexican doctor Francisco Moreno, who previously held the position of chief of medicine at the renowned ABC Medical Center in Mexico City, criticized his government for hiring Cuban doctors without verifying the quality and training of said professionals.

During a broadcast by El Financiero network, Moreno denounced that the Mexican government hired Cuban doctors without considering "an equivalence of their completed studies," warning that their "real capacity" is also unknown.

This statement was preceded by a meeting between the ruler Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez and Zoé Robledo Aburto, General Director of the IMSS, to finalize the agreements related to the contract for 1,200 Cuban doctors in Mexico.
