The four fatal victims of the serious traffic accident in which at least four people died early this Thursday in the province of Camagüey have already been identified.

However, such identification has taken place thanks to the efforts of independent media and the information provided by the victims' family members and acquaintances on social networks, as despite the magnitude of the disaster, local official media outlets continue to remain silent.

In addition to the initial identification of Cliver Álvarez Tamayo (17 years old) and Dailenis Silva (19) made by Cubanet, the identification of Milagros Hernández, obtained by Cubans Around the World, was then added.

CiberCuba has been able to confirm that the fourth victim is Yamila Marín, known by her acquaintances as "Yami," a resident of Camagüey and a friend of Milagros.

The accident occurred after the "Los Olivos" bridge, in El Carmen, leaving Santa Lucía beach, in an area known as "Las 80".

It was a crash between two cars. One was coming out of the beach and collided with another one that was parked on the opposite lane. According to what I was told, the driver had gone to pee," a source told Cubans por el Mundo.

The crash caused the instant death of the only minor involved in the tragedy, Cliver Álvarez Mayo, and Dailenis Silva.

The car that was leaving the beach - which was the one that hit the parked car - caught fire after the accident.

According to reports, among the people traveling in that vehicle were two women who ended up being the other two fatalities: Milagros Hernández and Yamila Marín, who died burned in the back of the vehicle as a result of the fire.

In addition to the four fatalities, there would be two seriously injured and one with minor injuries, a fact we have not been able to confirm.

In the last few hours, family members and friends of the victims have expressed shock on social media due to the magnitude of the unexpected tragedy, which has plunged several families into mourning at once.

Until the closing of this report, there are no other confirmed details about the accident.

All types of traffic accidents have not let up on Cuban roads since the beginning of the year, continuing the same trend that 2023 already marked.

This past Tuesday, a woman suffered serious injuries after being hit by a tourist car while riding a bicycle on the Jiguaní-Baire road in Granma.

Last year, 729 people lost their lives in Cuba as a result of traffic accidents. Authorities recorded 8,556 traffic incidents that left 5,938 injured. Human error is believed to have been the cause of 91% of these events, according to authorities.
