Cuban TikToker visits Russian Orthodox church in Havana: "It's very beautiful inside"

The Orthodox Cathedral of Our Lady of Kazan in Havana stands out for its golden domes. Discover more about this religious symbol of Russia in Cuba.

The Cuban TikToker Jonix Dose (@Jonixdose) visited the Russian Orthodox Cathedral of Our Lady of Kazan in Havana, sharing his experience with his followers.

This imposing building, located on Avenida del Puerto, represents the presence of the Russian Orthodox Church in Cuba, which began in the early 20th century with a community of Greek, Russian, and other Slavic immigrants.

The first stone for the construction of the temple was laid on November 14, 2004. The building was completed on October 19, 2008 with the consecration of the temple as a Russian Orthodox Cathedral.

The golden domes crowning the temple, built and gilded in gold by Russian specialists, stand out among the most striking elements of the church.

The interior of the temple houses the iconostasis, an artwork in Greco-Byzantine style from the 13th century, featuring the image of the Holy Virgin with the Child Jesus. This sacred representation of Our Lady of Kazan has a miraculous history and is considered the protector of Russia.

Jonxi Dose's visit highlights the historical and cultural significance of this temple in Havana, a place little known to Cubans and at the same time a meeting point for the Orthodox community on the island.
