Priest Alberto Reyes from the Archdiocese of Camagüey considered that violence in Cuba is not a phenomenon that exclusively involves young people but is "something widespread."

In statements to Martí Noticias, the father expressed his concern about the climate of violence and tension prevailing in Cuban society, following the massive fight over the weekend at La Finca de los Monos in Havana, where six teenagers were injured, according to government statistics. "Yes, there is a very significant increase in violence. In fact, we are worried, scared (...), people no longer go out with the same confidence as before. It is a new and very worrying phenomenon. I believe that the youth element makes it more dramatic, but it is something widespread," he emphasized.

Reyes expressed that in recent weeks, social indiscipline, violence, and disorder have increased, which is evident in the complaints on social networks. "People are upset and, therefore, people are very irritable, very susceptible," explained the priest, who attributes this discomfort to the economic crisis on the island and the lack of values in society. "It must be taken into account that we are the product of generations raised without values, that is, here the values have been cultivated by the church and those families where it has been maintained by family tradition, but we are not a country that has bet on educating generations in values because the only value has practically been loyalty to the political spectrum," he argued.

This Tuesday, the murder of a Cuban jeweler last Saturday in Havana has come to light on the island. He was shot in the mouth while on the street.

This event is also part of the growing criminality in Cuba, where in the past week several deaths have been reported in different areas of the country.

On Saturday, it was reported that a tumultuous brawl in a neighborhood in the city of Holguín ended in the murder of a young Cuban man.

Also, the body of the young Cuban man Geyler Castillo Benítez, who had been missing for a month in the municipality of Campechuela in Granma, appeared over the weekend. The corpse was found on the coast in an advanced state of decomposition and showing signs of violence, as confirmed by the family on social media.
