A Cuban mother is murdered in Spain.

The Cuban woman was the mother of a minor daughter.

A Cuban woman was murdered by her partner, a 62-year-old Spanish man, in the town of Antequera, in the Andalusian province of Malaga, Spain.

The victim -whose identity has not been disclosed- was 50 years old and was the mother of a minor, it is not clear whether the child was from a common relationship with her attacker.

The femicide took place on the night of July 5th when, after a domestic dispute, the man suffocated the woman.

It was actually the assailant who raised the alarm when he saw that the woman was not responding.

The man alerted a neighbor, who found the victim next to an irrigation ditch at the back of the house and administered first aid to the victim, who was still in agony.

The neighbor called the emergency telephone number 112, and personnel from the health services and the National Police were dispatched to the scene, but they could not do anything for the Cuban woman.

Upon observing external signs of asphyxia by suffocation, the authorities activated the protocol for suspected cases of violent death.

The couple had started their romantic relationship in 2010 and lived on a family farm they shared with the aggressor's mother and brother.

The National Police agents have not been able to determine if that was the trigger for the aggression, but what they have been able to confirm is that the coexistence between them was not good.

Questioned by the press, the mayor of Antequera, Manuel Barón, indicated that the woman's wish was to separate from her partner, which could have been what triggered the fight and the deadly assault.

The Antequera City Council called for a gathering of repudiation this Tuesday at the City Hall's door with the aim of showing solidarity with the victim's family. During the event, the mayor of the town of Malaga appeared visibly shocked by the crime.

This is the first time an event of this nature has occurred in the municipality of Antequera. Whenever you hear it on television or on the radio, it is shocking, but when you already feel it, experience it, or have it in your home and in your city, it makes you reflect much more. It is not an anonymous case. The truth is that I feel very sorry and emotional because I do not understand why a human being reaches this extreme, and moreover with the vulnerable, with children, women, and families, making them suffer," said Barón, who expressed a wish that something like this does not happen again.

No one deserves to die for any reason, but even less for this, for envy, possession. I don't know what can go through a man's or a person's mind to take the life of a woman," he added.

"Behind every victim, there is a torn life and a shattered family. This is becoming increasingly difficult, but from the Andalusian Government, we are setting all the guidelines to try to achieve zero violence, although it is complicated," said Loles López, the Minister of Social Inclusion, Youth, Families, and Equality of the Andalusian Regional Government.

With this case, the number of women killed by gender-based violence in Spain rises to 21 in 2024 and to 1,265 since these data began to be collected in 2003.

The Ministry of Equality of Spain reminds about the availability of the phone number 016 for any report of violence, as well as online consultations through the email 016-online@igualdad.gob.es and the WhatsApp channel at the number 600 000 016. These services operate 24 hours a day, every day of the week.

In addition, in emergency situations, you can call 112 or the emergency phone numbers of the National Police (091) and the Civil Guard (062). You can also use the ALERTCOPS application to send a distress signal to the police with geolocation.

The Government Delegate of Spain in Andalusia, Pedro Fernández, has called a meeting next Wednesday with the heads of the eight provincial units against gender-based violence and members of the State Security Forces and Bodies to specifically analyze the six murders recorded in Andalusia since the beginning of the year, in addition to two minors as a result of vicarious violence.
