A trailer with a container overturned this Wednesday at a roundabout in the city of Ciego de Ávila, and allegedly no one was injured.
According to preliminary information that emerged on Facebook, the accident occurred in the afternoon, at the roundabout at the exit to Camagüey, after the Bus Terminal, and only caused material damage.
The photo shared in the group "Bus & Truck Accidents for more experience and fewer victims!" shows the vehicle overturned on the side of the road, and the container, which came loose from the trailer bed, fallen on the grass next to the sidewalk.
As possible causes of the accident, some internet users speculated that the driver was traveling at a speed above the allowed limit for that section – that is, more than 50 km/h; while others pointed out that the cargo "shifted" because it was poorly distributed or without the proper securing and fastening, or the truck was overloaded.
The accident could have had fatal consequences if a passerby had been walking on the sidewalk at the time the trailer overturned, or if it had fallen onto the road, where many people on bicycles - as seen in the image - and other light vehicles pass by.
Likewise, some people expressed their concern about the material losses caused by traffic accidents and the costs of vehicle repairs, amid the severe economic crisis facing the country.
In recent days, several accidents involving trucks have been reported in Cuba.
A fateful collision between a truck and a bus, which occurred last Saturday night on the Mayarí road, near the ring road of the city of Holguín, resulted in the death of three people, including former baseball player Vladimiro Torres, 33 years old.
This Tuesday, a motorcyclist remains in critical condition after crashing his motorcycle into a truck on Calzada de Vento, in Havana.
In 2023, 729 people lost their lives in Cuba due to traffic accidents. Authorities recorded 8,556 road accidents that resulted in 5,938 injuries. According to official data, human error would have been the cause of 91% of these incidents.
