The Cuban police arrested a man who violently snatched a bicycle from a child in the province of Holguin.
The incident occurred this week in the municipality Urbano Noris.
According to the Facebook profile Hunter-Hunted, linked to the Ministry of the Interior, the thief's name is Jorge Luis García Fornaris and he was captured in just 24 hours.
Although no further details of the incident were provided, the publication suggests that García Fornaris has a criminal record. He is now back in prison, accused of a violent robbery.
The photograph does show that he is a rather young man.
"To mess with a child, taking advantage of their vulnerability and innocence, ranks as one of the lowest acts a human being can commit," said the author of the post.
Neither children nor teenagers are spared from crime in Cuba, where an increasing number of violent crimes are being reported, amidst an economic and social crisis that affects the majority of the population.
In mid-April, a 16-year-old young man was assaulted with a machete in Havana to rob him of his backpack, in which his only belongings were a water bottle and the ration book.
The incident occurred around 2:00 pm, the boy was held at machete point and was struck in the abdomen with the machete.
A few days earlier, residents in Santiago de Cuba stopped a suspected thief who snatched a cellphone from a teenager who was at the door of his house. The people detained the individual until the Police arrived.
In March, neighbors and passersby in the municipality of Diez de Octubre, in Havana, captured a man who attempted to steal a high school student's cell phone.
According to the Facebook profile Orly Reyesventas, the man attempted his robbery in a violent manner. He also said that he belongs to a gang operating in the vicinity of the Santo Suárez and La Víbora neighborhoods.
Last June, a child was assaulted with a knife in Havana and defended himself against his attackers thanks to his martial arts skills.
The minor, named Fabián, practices taekwondo, and since he masters personal defense techniques, he was able to prevent the two thieves from robbing him of his belongings and injuring him or doing something worse.
According to his uncle, Fabián left both assailants in a very bad position.
"He knocked the knife away with a kick to the arm and took off running. When he saw they were chasing him, he suddenly stopped running and landed another kick that left the attacker in bad shape," he explained.
