Just a month after his last victory, the talented Cuban Osleys Iglesias appears ready to continue his rise in professional boxing, as he has scheduled his next fight against the well-known Ghanaian Sena Agbeko on August 17 in Quebec City, Canada.
Regarded as a fighter with the skills necessary to excel at the highest level, the undefeated Iglesias (11-0, 10 knockouts) will need to showcase his entire repertoire against Agbeko (28-3, 22), an experienced opponent capable of putting up a tough fight in the ring.
According to a report by El Nuevo Herald, the matchup, set at 170 pounds, will take place as part of another event organized by Eye of The Tiger, and it will mark the matancero's third fight in North America, pending his team's decision on his debut in the United States.
In this regard, it is worth noting that Iglesias and his management decided to promote his professional career primarily between Germany and Poland, but gradually, they have expanded his boxing footprint, and he is now recognized as one of the leading figures in the light heavyweight division.
Agbeko, meanwhile, is no stranger to Cuban boxing, having been defeated by knockout last December by the star David Morell Jr. at The Armory in Minnesota during the latest Showtime Boxing event.
In June, Iglesias achieved one of the most stunning knockouts of 2024, leaving his opponent, the Russian Evgeny Shvedenko (16-2-1, 7), convulsing on the canvas.
At the Montreal Casino in Canada, the southpaw left his opponent in very poor condition, who quickly received medical assistance after suffering the first knockout of his career. In fact, he had only been knocked down once in his previous 18 fights, highlighting the Cuban's power.
The images of the clash went viral, and many believe it could be selected as the knockout of the year, although there are still numerous fights ahead.
"I am very grateful to God that my opponent is in good health. We are two people wanting to be the winner. Thank you, God, for allowing me to be the best of the night," wrote the super middleweight on Facebook.
As a member of the national team of Cuba, Iglesias stood out for his powerful punches and speed in the ring. He also had close matches against two-time Olympic champion Arlen López, although he was defeated four times at the Playa Girón tournaments.
Currently, boxing from the island is experiencing interesting times, with well-known figures such as Erislandy Lara, Yordenis Ugás, Robeisy Ramírez, the aforementioned Morrel, and Rances Barthelemy.
In addition, Andy Cruz, William Scull, and the brothers Leinier and Dainier Peró, among others, are maintaining an upward trajectory, suggesting a promising future and outstanding performances ahead.
