The FBI identifies the shooter who attempted to assassinate Trump.

The shooter was a 20-year-old young man. He had no identification, the FBI had to analyze his DNA and obtain biometric confirmation. He was registered to vote as a Republican; these would have been his first elections.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) identified the shooter who attempted to assassinate Donald Trump during a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday afternoon.

The FBI has identified Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, as the individual involved in the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump on July 13 in Butler, Pennsylvania," the agency said in a statement.

Crooks resided in the municipality of Bethel Park, about 35 miles south of the city of Butler, where the Republican leader's event was taking place. He graduated from Bethel Park High School in 2022.

I was registered to vote as a Republican, according to the Pennsylvania voter database.

The presidential elections in November would have been the first ones in which she could have voted.

On the other hand, Federal Election Commission records show that in January 2021, he donated $15 to a political action committee aligned with the Democrats called Progressive Turnout Project.

Crooks shot at Trump from the rooftop of a nearby building, outside the security perimeter of the rally. He was killed by Secret Service agents on site after the shooting.

When examining his body, FBI agents discovered that he was not carrying any identification, so they had to "analyze his DNA and obtain biometric confirmation," said Kevin Rojek, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI field office in Pittsburgh, during a press conference.

CNN contacted Matthew Crooks, the attacker's father, on Saturday night, who only said he was trying to figure out "what the hell is going on," but that he would "wait until speaking with the Police" before saying anything about his son.

Hours after the attack in which Donald Trump was injured, the former president flew back to Newark, New Jersey.

Previously, he thanked the United States Secret Service and all law enforcement agencies for their rapid response, and offered his condolences to the family of the person who was murdered.

It was confirmed that the shooting left two dead: Thomas Matthew Crooks and a rally attendee. Additionally, authorities reported two critically injured individuals.
