A truck allegedly loaded with chlorine tanks and a modern Gely brand car belonging to the prosecutor's office collided this Tuesday in the vicinity of the town of Aguacate, between the municipalities of Contramaestre and Palma Soriano, in the province of Santiago de Cuba.
It is unclear if there are any injuries as a result of the impact.
A brief video shared in the Facebook group Accidents Buses & Trucks showed that the modern car suffered a strong impact to its front end.
Several internet users agreed in stating that the crashed car belongs to the "prosecution."
"That guy from the prosecutor's office was going a thousand. It seems he fell asleep, and the truck driver tried by all means to get out of the lane, but the Gely kept going towards the truck and collided with the back tires of the truck," wrote a commentator with knowledge of what happened.
"From what they told me, it's a car loaded with chlorine tanks in the back that crashed," pointed out another young woman.
A third commentator described the scene as "regrettable" and referred to the excessive speed, poor road conditions, and recklessness of the drivers as a highly dangerous combination in similar situations.
"Besides what we all already know, which is the recklessness of many drivers, I invite a photo editor to point out in the video any posts or lighting fixtures in the entire area of the accident," added another user from the group.
A witness who passed by the location stated that as late as 11 a.m. the vehicles were still there and that the forensic experts had not arrived, although she noted that she did not see any blood in the area.
In recent weeks, a high number of traffic accidents have been reported in Cuba, many of them resulting in fatalities.
In the specific case of Santiago de Cuba, there are several reports documenting traffic incidents in the province.
However, Cuban authorities stated earlier this month that in the first half of 2024, there were 543 fewer traffic accidents in the country than in the same period of the previous year.
Colonel Roberto Rodríguez Fernández, head of the Specialized Transit Body of the Ministry of the Interior (MININT), reported in the official television program Mesa Redonda that between January and June there were 81 fewer fatalities (23%) and a reduction of 151 injured (5%) compared to the same months of 2023.
