A man was fatally shot by Miami police in Little Havana after they responded to a call about the victim firing shots into the air and at a building with a weapon, reported Telemundo.
The incident occurred at approximately 1:00 p.m. at 5 SW Avenue and SW 3 Street, just west of Interstate 95, in Miami, said Manny Morales, who is the local police chief.
According to the agent, they received a call to 911 and went to the location for a man who was shooting in the area.
He also mentioned that shots were fired during the confrontation and that the aggressor was shot and killed. Meanwhile, no officers were injured.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has opened an investigation into this incident, which is why the name of the armed man has not been released at this time.
This is not the first case of a man being shot dead by the Miami police this year.
In February of this year, a man who had been reported missing and in danger was shot by police officers during a confrontation at an apartment complex in Weston, in South Florida.
The deceased has been identified as Mario Bonilla, 55 years old, a resident of Weston.
The Broward Sheriff's Office (BSO) reported that agents responded to the area shortly after 9 a.m. after receiving reports of a possible suspicious person.
"When they found the individual, he exited the vehicle. He was armed. They gave him verbal orders to drop the weapon. He did not comply. Instead, he charged at the officers, which prompted one of the agents to fire his weapon," said BSO spokesperson Veda Coleman-Wright.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene and was later identified by the authorities.
