A group of supportive Cubans has come together in Sancti Spíritus to provide food for children in vulnerable situations.

This noble gesture was coordinated through the Facebook profile "Aquí con el héroe en Sancti Spíritus. Grupo de solidaridad y ayuda". The user Nelys Valdés expressed: "That’s why we cannot stop. This continues moving forward and nothing will hold us back... we are going for more."

The images shared by Nelys showed the delivery of prepared foods and meals for the children and their families. This initiative has received hundreds of supportive comments on social media.

A user wrote: "Many blessings to the group administration for their lovely work, and also to all the people who in one way or another make all this possible."

Food donations are occurring in the context of a severe food crisis in the country, where the government claims it will support vulnerable individuals, but fails to keep its promises, and the number of elderly people and children without access to basic products is increasing.

In June, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) published a report that includes Cuba in its assessment of child nutrition.

They indicated that 9% of children in Cuba suffer from severe food insecurity, which means they only have access to a maximum of two of the eight essential foods for a healthy life. This situation highlights the importance of initiatives like the one created by the solidarity group in Sancti Spíritus.
