Workers in the state of Florida who are paid hourly will see an increase in the minimum wage starting this September 30. The minimum wage will rise from $12 to $13 per hour.

According to an amendment approved by the voters of that state in 2020, the wage will increase to $15 per hour by September 2026.

As has happened every year since the approval of Amendment 2 to the state constitution in November 2020, Florida's minimum wage will increase by $1 until it is adjusted to the annual inflation starting in 2027.

For workers who receive tips, the minimum wage will be $9.98 per hour.

Employers must pay their employees the state minimum wage for all hours worked. Those who do not receive the minimum wage can file a civil action against the employer or anyone who violates Florida's minimum wage law.

In November 2020, 60% of Florida voters approved the amendment to gradually increase the minimum wage in the state to $15 an hour by 2026.

The amendment states that the $15 per hour wage will be in effect until December 31, 2027. Indexed increases based on inflation will begin from 2028.

This gradual increase aims to provide continuous improvement in the income of Florida workers, ensuring that their wages maintain their value against inflation and the cost of living in the state.

In 2024, the federal minimum wage in the United States is $7.25 per hour for covered non-exempt workers. This rate has been in effect for 14 years and has not increased.

But more than 30 states have their minimum wages above that value.
