Tropical storm Ernesto causes heavy rains in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands

Ernesto is expected to turn tonight and on Thursday toward the north-northwest with a decrease in its speed.


Tropical storm Ernesto has brought heavy rains to Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands in the last hours of Tuesday and the morning of this Wednesday, and it is expected to move northward toward the Atlantic Ocean throughout the day.

According to the 8:00 am bulletin from the National Hurricane Center (NHC) of the United States, Ernesto was located about 200 kilometers (125 miles) northwest of San Juan and will turn north-northwest tonight and on Thursday, with a decrease in its speed.

The phenomenon has maximum sustained winds of 110 km/h and is moving northwest at 26 km/h.

In the following days, it is expected to move over the western Atlantic, and on Saturday, it will approach Bermuda.

Tropical storm Ernesto formed on Monday in the Atlantic, and initially, forecasts indicated that it was heading towards Cuba while it was still a tropical wave. Later, it veered north.

The forecasting models do not predict that Ernesto will impact either Cuba or Florida.

It is expected to reach the ocean as a hurricane on Thursday.
