Cuban presenter and comedian Alexis Valdés has dedicated a post on his Instagram account to his "colleague and friend" Jorge Perugorría, on the occasion of the 59th birthday of the co-star of Fresa y chocolate.
"Today is El Pichi's birthday. Iconic actor of Cuban cinema for the last 35 years. A friend from youth, from his beginnings and mine (a little more advanced, which perhaps suggests that I am somewhat older than him)," Valdés wrote, recalling how they met during the filming of the soap opera Tren de noviembre, in the late eighties.
According to his account, Perugorría – with whom he reunited in 1989 for the novel From Your Dream to My Dream – had "that personal charm that made him liked by colleagues," and he recalled the cinematic phenomenon that was Fresa y chocolate, which he saw while living in Spain.
"I ran into him at his premiere at the Capitol cinema in Madrid. And he was, as always, very affectionate, always with that big smile, which was like a snapshot, and that exploded on his face every time I said something funny to him. That smile that conquered half the world in many movies," he detailed.
"Years and years have passed. And he retains his charm and smile. And he treasures a great career in cinema perhaps like no other Cuban actor of his generation," he emphasized.
Alexis concluded his message with the wish that "one day things in our land will be simpler" and that there can be a reunion with Perugorría on a shoot.
